These days, if you perform a Google search on “Good web hosting plans” a million sites will show up. But if you go through the features you will know that pretty much everyone is offering the same thing. Some with a higher price and some with a lower. So what we need to look for in a web hosting to determine if the hosting is good? There are some terminologies in web hosting that are used to describe the features of that web hosts. These terms may be quite new to most of the people because they don’t have technical knowledge. So here is an overview of some of them:

Server: This might sound weird, but majority of people don’t know about the word “web hosting” is, it is nothing but a computer that holds your website files. Just like the computer that you are using, it holds images, text files and of course other codes that are used to run a website. The only difference (simplified) between your computer and a server is that your computer is not holding website files of other people and it is not accessible to other people. i.e. I will not be able to go through the files of your computer form mine. But the server allows this within a secured environment.

Linux server: Just like you have an operating system in your computer (Windows 98, Windows Vista etc) Linux is an operating system. Many people use Linux in their personal computers, but they are considered advanced users. But the fact here is, Linux is a far more secured operating system than the windows, because it does not allow any single operation to go without the operators permission. This makes Linux act like an antivirus. So any server or hosting plan that offers Linux hosting, they are offering safe hosting.

Unlimited disk space: Means you can have as many files as you want.

Unlimited bandwidth: Means that there is no limits as to how many people can come to your site at the same time.

These are pretty much the terms that will be needed to consider. Most web hostings will have the same things, but what matters the most is their customer support. Hopefully when you go out there in search for a good web host, you will have a better idea about what to look for.
